Vinesh Phogat secured a place in the women’s 50kg wrestling final at the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman in the semifinal on Tuesday. Her victory guarantees India at least a silver medal. Phogat will compete for the gold medal on Wednesday.
Phogat, competing in the 50kg weight category for the first time, delivered an impressive 5-0 victory by points against Guzman. In the first round, she earned her initial point through passivity.
