World Theatre Day Is On Around The Corner, Lets Know About Its History, Significance

March 27 is recognized as “World Theatre Day” across the world. One of the most well-liked mediums for capturing tradition and culture from all over the world is theater. Dramas and their crucial function in the theatrical arts are preserved to this day. Theatre is a platform that helps in bringing up issues that people need to know about. The world theatre day encourages positivity among the masses.

What is Theatre?

Theatre is a stage where performers with their artistic talent give live performances to spread a message to the audience through gestures, speech, song, music, or dance. The word theatre has been originated  from the Greeks, which means the seeing place. People use the theater as a platform to witness various social events and issues.

History

The International Theatre Institute (ITI) first celebrated World Theatre Day in 1961. This day is commemorated by staging theatrical productions at venues across the world. 

The first ITI conference was held in Helsinki, Finland, and Vienna

On World Theatre Day, French playwright Jean Cocteau gave the first speech.

How it is celebrated?

Different events are organized to mark World Theatre Day every year. The distribution of a global message on World Theatre Day is among the most anticipated events. On the occasion of World Theatre Day International Messages are presented by a famous art figure, reflecting light on the history of theatre and its community in today’s world. The first World Theatre Day International Message was written by French poet and playwright Jean Cocteau in 1962. In 2021, the Message of the World Theatre Day was authored by Helen Mirren, a multi-award-winning British actress reputed for winning the Academy Award in 2007 for her performance in ‘The Queen’. The distribution of a global message on World Theatre Day is among the most anticipated events

The significance of this day is to raise awareness regarding the importance of theatre around the world.

 The day also provides opportunities for those who are interested in doing theatre.

 On this day theatre Communities  put forward their work  infront of the masses.
