These Small Mistakes Can Ruin The Health Benefits Of Green Tea And Lead To Stomach Pain, Know Why?

Green tea, believed to be an alternative to high caffeine-containing tea, is generally considered an impactful and healthy drink.

Ayurveda describes it as a perfect beverage for digestion and the excretion of toxic substances. Ayurveda also considers it a drink that brings peace to the mind.

Green tea has now become part of the daily routine of many Indians, as science confirms that catechins, the antioxidants it contains, help protect the human body.

However, people often make minor mistakes that significantly reduce the benefits of this otherwise miraculous drink.

Sometimes, the way you consume green tea causes more harm than benefit.

One of the most common mistakes is drinking green tea when it is too hot.

Ayurveda states that excessively hot beverages increase acidity, which can cause severe burning and heaviness in the stomach.

Science also confirms that very hot liquids can damage the lining of the throat, leading to inflammation or a sore throat.

When you consume green tea too hot, your body may not fully benefit from its antioxidants.

It is best to let green tea cool slightly before drinking it so that its flavour can be fully appreciated and the stomach remains calm.

Drinking green tea on an empty stomach is also not advisable.

According to Ayurveda, consuming astringent beverages on an empty stomach can imbalance both Vata and Pitta doshas.

From a scientific perspective, the caffeine in green tea can increase acid levels in the stomach. This may lead to gas or mild cramps.

When there is no food in the stomach, this acid directly irritates the digestive system. Therefore, it is better to have a light breakfast or some biscuits before drinking green tea to keep the stomach balanced.

There is a common misconception that drinking several cups of green tea daily leads to rapid weight loss or excessive detoxification. This is incorrect.

Ayurveda warns that excessive consumption of anything can disturb the body’s dosha balance.

Scientific studies have shown that too much caffeine can cause restlessness, diarrhoea, or stomach pain.

Drinking excessive amounts of green tea can also reduce the body’s ability to absorb iron, potentially leading to weakness. Consuming two to three cups of green tea a day is sufficient to enjoy its benefits in a balanced and healthy manner.
