Sunburn: Spending too much time under the sun can leave your skin red, sore, and inflamed.
Whether you forgot to reapply sunscreen or didn’t expect strong UV rays, sunburn can occur quickly and be uncomfortable.
Fortunately, there are effective ways to soothe sunburned skin and prevent further damage.
As soon as you notice redness or heat on your skin, move out of the sun and cool the affected area.
Apply a cool, damp cloth or take a lukewarm shower.
Avoid using ice directly, as it can shock the skin and worsen inflammation.
Apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturiser to the sunburned area. Aloe vera contains natural anti-inflammatory compounds and promotes healing.
Look for lotions with soy, calendula, or oat extract for additional calming benefits.
Sunburn pulls fluid from your skin to the surface, which can dehydrate your body.
Drink plenty of water, coconut water, or electrolyte drinks to help your body and skin rehydrate faster.
Do not use exfoliants, alcohol-based products, or strong acne treatments on sunburned skin.
These can cause irritation and slow the healing process.
Stick to gentle, hydrating cleansers and avoid makeup until your skin recovers.
Tight clothes can rub against sunburned skin and cause more discomfort.
Opt for loose-fitting cotton clothes that allow your skin to breathe and heal naturally without added friction.
If your sunburn causes blisters, leave them intact.
They are your body’s natural bandage and protect against infection.
If they break on their own, clean the area gently and apply an antibiotic ointment.
While these steps can help soothe sunburn quickly, prevention is always better.
Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen, seek shade between 11 AM and 3 PM, and cover up with hats and sunglasses.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
With the right care, sunburned skin can begin to heal within a few days.
Treating it early and gently is essential to avoid peeling, scarring, or long-term skin damage.
If the burn is severe or accompanied by fever, chills, or dizziness, consult a medical professional immediately.
