Many people struggle with a stubborn lower belly bulge despite regular workouts and disciplined diets.
A fitness coach recently explained that the problem may not always be excess fat.
In many cases, the visible ‘pooch’ occurs due to poor posture and prolonged sitting habits rather than weight gain.
Experts highlight a common postural condition known as anterior pelvic tilt.
This occurs when the pelvis rotates forward while the lower back arches excessively.
The change in alignment pushes the abdomen outward, making the stomach appear larger even when body fat levels remain stable.
Long hours of sitting often trigger this imbalance. Tight hip flexor muscles and weakened glutes pull the pelvis forward, creating the exaggerated curve in the lower back.
Over time, this position also places stress on the spine and may cause discomfort or lower-back pain.
Fitness specialists say correcting posture can significantly improve the appearance of the abdomen. They recommend strengthening core muscles and improving hip mobility through simple exercises performed at home.
Movements such as quadrupod pelvic tilts, deadbug toe taps, bear hold toe taps, hip mobility drills, and stretching routines can help restore neutral pelvic alignment.
These exercises aim to stabilise the core and reduce excessive arching of the spine.
Experts also stress the importance of daily posture awareness. Standing upright, engaging the core, and avoiding extended sitting periods can gradually correct the imbalance.
Small lifestyle adjustments, practised consistently, can help flatten the lower belly and improve spinal health.
