How Desi Ghee Fits Into Aditi Rao Hydari’s Everyday Wellness Routine

Several Indian celebrities recently revived conversations around the health benefits of desi ghee. They highlighted its use in traditional home remedies and digestive wellness.

Actress Aditi Rao Hydari, judge Archana Puran Singh, and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu shared their views on desi ghee. They addressed common misconceptions and stressed the importance of balanced consumption.

On a popular talk show, Aditi Rao Hydari said she enjoys desi ghee regularly, describing India’s traditional remedies as highly effective.

Archana Puran Singh defended ghee’s reputation, stating that it does not inherently cause weight gain and is misunderstood by many.

Navjot Singh Sidhu shared his view on beginning the day with ghee and turmeric. He said this routine helps the body prioritise fat burning early in the morning.

Sidhu contrasted this with beginning the day with sugary tea, which he said prompts cravings for heavy foods like parathas and butter.

Dietitian Amreen Sheikh from KIMS Hospitals in Thane explained the science behind desi ghee consumption. She said weight gain occurs due to excess calories and an imbalanced diet, not ghee alone.

When used in controlled amounts, ghee can support digestion and promote a sense of fullness, which may reduce snacking and sugar cravings.

Ghee contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, alongside short-chain fatty acids like butyrate that may support gut health. It is also free of lactose and casein, which can make it easier to digest than butter for some individuals.

Experts recommend moderation: one to two teaspoons a day is sufficient for most adults, including ghee used in cooking or added to meals.

Overconsumption can quickly increase calorie intake, so portion control alongside a balanced diet is crucial.

Nutrition specialists also point out that desi ghee has long been a part of traditional Indian diets and may aid digestion when introduced thoughtfully. Its nutrient profile and satiety-enhancing properties can make healthy foods more enjoyable and sustainable in the long term.

While celebrity endorsements have popularised ghee’s benefits, health professionals emphasise that it should complement an overall nutritious diet.

Balance, portion control and lifestyle factors remain essential for achieving and maintaining good health.
