Guinness Explains Why It Deactivated World Record For Longest Kiss

Guinness World Records (GWR) has declared that the longest-kiss world record has been discontinued because the competition has become too dangerous.

GWR stated on its website that certain of the contest regulations were in contradiction with its current and updated policies. It also listed the restrictions and explained the difficulties the players had in adhering to them while aiming to beat the record.

Guinness also stated that the longest kissing marathon has replaced the longest kiss record category.

The previous longest kiss event, according to GWR, lasted 58 hours and 35 minutes and was won by a Thai pair, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat.

The event took place on February 12, 2013, in Pattaya, Thailand, and lasted two days.

“Nine couples entered the annual competition, including one in their 70s (who only lasted 1 hour 38 minutes due to the husband’s inability to stand any longer”, GWR stated.

“When the previous record of 50 hours 25 minutes (set one year earlier by two Thai men) was broken, four couples remained. Ekkachai and Laksana, who had previously set the record in 2011, won the contest, taking home the grand prize of 100,000 Thai Baht ($3,300) and two diamond rings worth 100,000 Baht”, it added.

GWR went on to say that after this record, it deactivated the category, emphasizing the rules that the challengers had to obey.

The candidates’ lips had to be touching at all times, and they couldn’t eat or drink anything without their lips parting. The guidelines also required that the players be awake at all times.

Adult diapers and rest breaks were not permitted.

According to GWR, because of the strict constraints, participants were more likely to succumb to the consequences of sleep deprivation, including psychosis. It also included a list of such incidents.
