From Heels To Make Up And Even Sanitary Napkins -These Ladies Products Were Originally Meant For Men

Heels – Ask most women that they would feel naked without their heels. In fact Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes in the TV series ‘Sex and The City’ has special airtime and were a visual treat to watch. Every woman’s saviour is to give her more height and make her look sexier. Apparently European men in the 17th century were wearing heels for the same reasons as women do today to look taller. While women also wear it for fashion reasons and give them more gait, men wore them to look more intimidating.

In the 10th century heels were developed for butchers to keep their feet clean so that blood would not splatter while they were slaughtering animals. European men in the 10th century started wearing heels to look taller and give them a more intense personality.

Crop Tops – This product was made for men and by men in the 1940s to save fabric.

In the ‘70s it became a thing of fashion for male bodybuilders, especially those who were shy to go topless. It was taken to by footballers in a major way.

Sanitary Napkins – It was being used as wound packings during WWI. The nurses started using it during menstruation.

It came into common use many years later since it was extremely highly expensive for the common woman.

Makeup – Believe it or not the makeup we always associate with women was first used by wealthy men in the times of yore.

In ancient egypt men wore makeup for different reasons. It was seen as a sign of high status and some colours like green and red were used to invoke the Gods. We see now that make-up is again being accepted for use by men and is a sign of metrosexual beauty.

Skirts – Skirts were initially used in battle by soldiers as it made it easy to run around. Since the armour caused body heat this comfortable piece of clothing took care of this too with enough circulation of air.

Now of course women wear this comfortable piece of clothing both on a regular basis as well as high fashion clothing.

It’s a man’s world ‘ , sang the R & B and Soul singer , James Brown but the line is followed by ‘ it would be nothing without a woman or a girl”.

Women always find a way to utilise, nurture and feminise be it a product or the world at large.
