Coloured Contact Lenses For Diwali: Are You Choosing Style Over Eye Safety?

Coloured contact lenses have become a popular fashion accessory for festive gatherings, weddings and parties. From hazel and grey to blue and green, these lenses can instantly transform your appearance.

Choosing the right pair involves more than matching a shade to your outfit. Comfort, quality and eye health matter just as much.

Before buying coloured contact lenses, see a qualified eye specialist. Even zero-power decorative lenses require a proper fit.

An eye exam helps determine corneal size and curvature to ensure the lenses fit your eyes. Poorly fitted lenses can scratch the cornea and restrict oxygen supply.

Always check the manufacturer’s details, batch number, expiry date and lens specifications before purchasing.

Choose products with sealed packaging and avoid loose, unlabelled lenses, regardless of their price or appearance.

Opt for soft, breathable lenses that fit comfortably. Avoid oversized or extremely dark designs that cover a large part of the pupil, as they can affect vision in dim lighting.

Daily disposable lenses provide a convenient and hygienic option for occasional use.

Purchase coloured contact lenses from licensed opticians, hospital optical stores or certified online retailers.

Avoid street stalls, salons, festival pop-ups and unverified social media sellers.

Poor-quality lenses can increase the risk of microbial keratitis, a serious corneal infection.

Wash and dry your hands before handling lenses. Always use fresh contact lens solution and never use tap water. Do not share lenses with others or wear them while sleeping.

If you experience redness, pain, blurred vision or light sensitivity, remove your lenses immediately and consult an eye specialist.

Avoid using steroid eye drops without medical advice, as they can worsen corneal infections.
