Aevin Dugas has broken another Guinness World Record for the largest afro, this time measuring 9.84 inches tall, 10.4 inches wide, and 5.41 feet in diameter.
According to the record book, this is her second attempt at breaking the world record. When Aevin first set the record in 2010, her afro measured an incredible 4 ft 4 in circumference (132 cm).
Aevin’s hairstyle, which took 24 years to grow, was inspired by his desire to go natural.
Ms. Dugas said, “I didn’t so much decide to grow an afro as I did to go natural”.
Ms. Dugas told GWR, “That was because I had become weary of permanently straightening my hair with harmful chemicals. I’m pleased I left those chemicals alone years ago because they have now been connected to cancer, and a significant case is currently pending”.
“Before I shampoo, condition, and style my hair, I started doing hot oil treatments, or “oiling” my hair with butter that I produce, which I do at least once every seven days”, Ms. Dugas added.
She stated, “Furthermore, I take extra care with my hair’s ends because they are its oldest and most vulnerable areas. I make an effort to do styles that conceal my ends. That is very helpful”.
Aevin lavishes a lot of care and attention on her hair, yet she hardly ever sports an afro.
Ms. Dugas said, “I wear my hair in a variety of ways”.
“Different people react differently to my afro. Some people simply exclaim their admiration, some merely gaze, others approach and inquire, while others merely approach and give a little tug”, she spoke.
She further said, “I’ve learned to simply give them a quick pop on the hand and a few carefully chosen words. I won’t say them again here”.
But Aevin’s hairdresser is often the one who is most taken aback by her afro.
“My hairdresser only trims my hair because I do my own hair”, Aevin explained.
