Women Alleges Rape, Fraud & Threats Against Businessman Sameer Modi

Businessman Sameer Modi, brother of fugitive Lalit Modi, was produced before the Saket court today. The court extended his remand for two days, after Delhi Police initially sought a three-day extension for investigation.

Police arrested Sameer Modi at Indira Gandhi International Airport, linking him to a rape case registered earlier this month.

Officials from the Defence Colony police station took him into custody when he returned from London, citing a pending complaint.

An FIR was registered on September 10, 2025, concerning allegations tied to a 2019 rape incident that took place in Delhi.

According to the complainant, she lived with Sameer Modi in a live-in relationship lasting nearly seven to eight years. She alleged Modi repeatedly raped her under false promises of marriage, alongside fraud and threats during their troubled relationship.

Police registered the FIR following a court order, which was issued after the complainant submitted her detailed statement.

Sameer Modi’s lawyer countered the allegations, asserting that the woman had blackmailed him and demanded ₹50 crore for withdrawal.

The lawyer also claimed police acted hastily, arresting Modi without a proper investigation.

Earlier in August, Modi filed a complaint with the police alleging extortion and harassment by the very same women.

Life History

Sameer Modi, 55, started his career as a trainee with Philip Morris USA in 1992, before joining the family business. He launched Modi Care in 1996, carving his presence in the direct-selling industry, while frequently engaging in controversies thereafter.

Disputes escalated after his father KK Modi’s ₹11,000 crore estate case, causing internal conflicts within the prominent business family.

In 2004, Sameer alleged his mother’s security officer assaulted him at the Godfrey Phillips board meeting, accusing a conspiracy.

His mother denied those allegations, underscoring the long history of family disputes shadowing Sameer Modi’s controversial public image.
