ABVP Sweeps DUSU Polls, Wins President & Two Key Posts; NSUI Bags Vice President

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, swept the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections on Friday.

Aryan Maan of the ABVP won the President’s post, defeating Congress-backed NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by a huge margin. ABVP also secured the Secretary and Joint Secretary positions.

Rahul Jhansla of the NSUI clinched the Vice President’s seat, while the ABVP’s Kunal Chaudhary won as Secretary and Deepika Jha as Joint Secretary.

Aryan Maan, the new DUSU President-elect, polled 28,841 votes compared to Joslyn Choudhary’s 12,645. He succeeds NSUI’s Ronak Khatri, who held the post last year.

For the Vice President’s post, NSUI secured 29,339 votes against ABVP’s 20,547. ABVP won the Secretary post with 23,779 votes against NSUI’s 16,177. In the Joint Secretary contest, ABVP bagged 21,825 votes while NSUI polled 17,380.

More than 1.55 lakh students voted on Thursday across 52 centres, with 195 booths and 711 EVMs. The total turnout was recorded at 39.45 per cent. Over 2.75 lakh students from 50+ DU colleges were eligible to cast their votes.

Voting took place in two shifts, the morning session from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the evening session from 3 PM to 7:30 PM across eight colleges.

The 2025 DUSU polls marked a rare prominence of women candidates for the top post, something the university had not seen in nearly two decades. The last woman to serve as DUSU President was ABVP’s Nupur Sharma in 2008-09.

NSUI’s presidential candidate Joslyn Choudhary campaigned on hostel shortages, campus safety, and menstrual leave demands. The SFI-AISA combined fielded Anjali from Indraprastha College for Women, who focused on gender sensitisation, fee hikes, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
