Supreme Court To Hear Manish Sisodia’s Petition On Bail Conditions

The Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi liquor policy scam case on December 11. A bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan will review the petition.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Sisodia, urged the court to expedite the hearing. Sisodia has requested a relaxation of his bail conditions. In the previous hearing, the court issued notices to the CBI and ED, seeking their responses.

Sisodia’s lawyer emphasized that the AAP leader had appeared before the investigating officers 60 times. Singhvi argued that Sisodia, a respected public figure, should not be subjected to such strict conditions. Similar conditions were imposed on other accused in the case, he added.

The Supreme Court had granted Manish Sisodia bail on August 9, 2023, in both the CBI and ED cases. The court set bail at Rs 10 lakh personal bonds and ordered Sisodia to appear before investigating officers every Monday and Thursday. The court noted that Sisodia had been in jail for 17 months without a trial. Additionally, Court added delay trial deprived him of his right to a speedy trial.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, and by the ED on March 9, 2023, in connection with the corruption and money laundering charges related to the Delhi Excise Policy Scam.
