In a landmark election at the High Court Bar Association, senior advocate Rakesh Pandey Babua has been re-elected President for the third time, while Akhilesh Kumar Sharma emerged victorious as General Secretary.
The results, declared on Tuesday afternoon, saw Pandey defeat his closest rival and former General Secretary CP Upadhyay by 193 votes, securing 2,121 against Upadhyay’s 1,928. Former President Ashok Kumar Singh, however, ranked third with 1,734 votes.
For the General Secretary position, Akhilesh Sharma registered a decisive win, defeating Rai Sahab Yadav by a substantial margin of 937 votes.
Sharma received 2,885 votes, while Yadav garnered 1,948. Former Joint Secretary (Administration) Santosh Kumar Mishra came third with 1,149 votes.
Chief Election Officer RK Ojha, alongside election officers Anil Bhushan, Vashishth Tiwari, and Mahendra Bahadur Singh, confirmed that counting continued till late evening at Kandarp Narayan Mishra Hall.
A tight contest unfolded for Senior Vice-President between Kamlesh Kumar Dwivedi and Dharmendra Singh, with Kamlesh slightly ahead at 862 votes compared to Dharmendra’s 852.
For Joint Secretary (Administration), Barrister Singh maintained the lead with 1,234 votes, followed by Ashutosh Tripathi at 946. In the Joint Secretary (Library) race, Shashi Kumar Dwivedi led with 1,136 votes, with Ajay Kumar Maurya trailing at 951.
Vote counting for Joint Secretary (Press), Joint Secretary (Women) and Treasurer was ongoing by Tuesday evening, with 698 ballots tallied.
The Joint Secretary (Women) category, however, witnessed a close contest between Shivangi Bhargava (199) and Bindu Kumari (195).
For Joint Secretary (Press), Rameshwar Dutt Pandey was leading with 137 votes, while Anjani Kumar Mishra topped the Treasurer race with 157.
Prominent legal figures, including Chief Standing Counsel Sheetla Prasad Gaur, former General Secretary JB Singh, candidate Shashi Prakash Singh, and former Vice-President Harvansh Singh, extended congratulations to the newly elected President and General Secretary.
Counting for the remaining posts of Joint Secretary (Press), Joint Secretary (Women) and Treasurer will resume at the Library Hall on Wednesday at 10 AM, while votes for Joint Secretary (Administration) and Joint Secretary (Library) will continue at Kandarp Narayan Mishra Hall.

The results, however, mark a significant moment for the Prayagraj legal fraternity. Notably, Rakesh Pandey Babua created history by securing a third term as President, while Akhilesh Kumar Sharma won the General Secretary post by a commanding margin.
