NCLT Chairman Justice Anupvinder Singh Grewal Calls For Faster Insolvency Resolution

National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Chairman Justice Anupvinder Singh Grewal has stressed the need for faster resolution of insolvency and corporate disputes.

Speaking at PHDCCI’s ‘IBC Pulse 2.0’ conference in Chandigarh, Anupvinder Singh Grewal said NCLT’s role extends beyond resolving court cases. Instead, he described efficient insolvency resolution as part of nation-building and public service.

More than 200 judicial, industry and insolvency professionals attended the conference. Participants, however, discussed reforms to make the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016 faster, stronger and more transparent.

Justice Grewal called the IBC a crucial pillar of India’s economic framework. He said a swift insolvency process strengthens corporate accountability, transparency and investor confidence. Additionally, he recalled NCLT’s swift case disposal during the Covid-19 pandemic despite severe challenges.

Going forward, Grewal said the tribunal needs greater investment in infrastructure, judicial strength, advanced technology and institutional resources. He invited stakeholders to submit suggestions for further reforms.

NCLT’s founding chairman and former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice MM Kumar highlighted the tribunal’s evolution. He further stressed the need for institutions to modernise alongside India’s expanding economy.

Former NCLT judicial member Harnam Singh Thakur urged authorities to clear pending cases within prescribed timelines. He called for new NCLT benches, more members and improved basic infrastructure.

PHDCCI NCLT and IBC Committee Chairman GP Madan and former judicial member Dr PSN Prasad backed stronger institutional capacity to manage rising workloads.

PHDCCI Deputy Director General Dr Jatinder Singh and Haryana Additional Advocate General Shekhar Raj Sharma discussed India’s evolving economy and IBC implementation.

Technical sessions featured Kuldeep Kumar Karir, Praveen Gupta, Vivek Attri, Ishan Madan, Atul Sood, Anil Katia, Navneet Gupta and KV Jain. Together, the speakers examined practical bottlenecks and ways to make insolvency resolution more dependable.
