A Meerut court on Friday sentenced Ravita and her lover, Amardeep, to death for murdering her husband, Amit Kashyap, and staging his death as a snakebite.
Days earlier, another Meerut court sentenced Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla to death in the 2025 ‘Blue Drum murder case’.
The pair murdered Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, and hid his dismembered body inside a drum.
The court convicted Ravita and Amardeep on October 7. Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar heard the case. Both accused joined the proceedings through video conferencing from jail.
The murder occurred in Akbarpur Sadat village, under Meerut’s Bahsuma police station area.
On April 13, 2025, relatives found Kashyap dead on his bed, with a snake trapped beneath his waist. His body reportedly bore around 10 snakebite marks.
Ravita opposed the family’s request for a post-mortem examination. The report detected no snake venom and identified suffocation as the cause of death, prompting police to investigate murder.
Investigators examined call records and found 51 calls between Ravita and Amardeep within 24 hours. Police said Kashyap suspected their relationship and had threatened Ravita.
Investigators alleged that the pair bought a snake for Rs 1,000 from a snake charmer and placed it on the bed to fake a snakebite.
Kashyap’s brother, Monu, filed a complaint on April 16, 2025. Police filed the charge sheet within 60 days. The court held 87 hearings over 551 days and heard more than 12 prosecution witnesses.
