Aam Aadmi Party’s Uttam Nagar MLA, Naresh Baliyan, has faced a setback as the Rouse Avenue Court rejected his bail plea in the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) case.
Special Judge Kaveri Baveja passed the order, denying Baliyan bail. However, the court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police on a separate plea filed by Baliyan, seeking permission to sign nomination documents for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The Rouse Avenue Court will hear Baliyan’s plea on January 16, in which he seeks permission to sign documents for filing his nomination and to open a bank account. Despite the rejection of his bail application, Baliyan now has the option of appealing the decision in the Delhi High Court.
Naresh Baliyan was arrested by Delhi Police on December 4 in connection with the MCOCA case. His initial arrest, however, occurred on November 30 in a case of extortion. After receiving bail in the extortion case, Baliyan was re-arrested under MCOCA. According to the Delhi Police, the investigation into Baliyan’s alleged involvement in criminal activities with notorious gangster Kapil Sangwan dates back to 2023.
Kapil Sangwan, a notorious gangster residing in Britain for the past five years, is believed to be the mastermind behind several high-profile crimes, including the murder of Nafe Singh in Haryana and the killings of Ballu Pehelwan and BJP leader Surendra Matiala.
Both Baliyan and Sangwan are originally from Najafgarh, Delhi, and were allegedly in contact regarding criminal activities in 2023, which prompted the filing of an FIR in the case.
With his bail plea rejected by the Rouse Avenue Court, Naresh Baliyan now faces the legal challenge of seeking relief from the Delhi High Court. The outcome of his petition to the court for permission to sign election-related documents will be determined in the upcoming hearing on January 16.
