Justice Gautam Chaudhary Sets Record For Most Orders Delivered In Hindi

Justice Dr Gautam Chaudhary of the Allahabad High Court has created a landmark record by delivering the highest number of judicial orders in Hindi.

By 12 September 2025, Justice Chaudhary had adjudicated a total of 79,502 cases, delivering 27,846 entirely in Hindi and 51,656 in a mix of Hindi and English.

This achievement makes him the leading judge in terms of Hindi-language case disposal.

A significant portion of Justice Chaudhary’s orders pertained to criminal miscellaneous bail applications. He disposed of 34,597 such cases, with 18,049 orders issued entirely in Hindi and 16,548 in mixed Hindi-English.

This underlines his commitment to using Hindi in critical judicial proceedings, especially in criminal law.

Judgments under Section 482

Under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Justice Chaudhary disposed of 21,532 petitions.

Out of these, 5,578 orders were written completely in Hindi, and 15,954 in a mixture of Hindi and English. This also shows his dedication to maintaining accessibility and clarity in the language of the courts.

Criminal miscellaneous writ petitions accounted for 5,635 cases, with 87 orders in Hindi and 5,548 in mixed language.

Justice Chaudhary also disposed of cases in various other categories in Hindi, including criminal transfer applications, criminal writ public interest petitions, appeals under Section 37 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, criminal appeals under Section 378 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and appeals related to acquittals under the SC/ST Act.

Justice Gautam Chaudhary’s remarkable record demonstrates his dedication to promoting Hindi as a judicial language, ensuring wider accessibility of justice for Hindi-speaking litigants.

His achievement marks a significant step towards linguistic inclusiveness in the Indian judiciary.

By delivering a record number of orders in Hindi, Justice Chaudhary has carved a unique identity in the judiciary.

Furthermore, his efforts highlight the importance of Hindi in legal proceedings, encouraging other courts to follow suit and make justice more understandable to the common people.
