Delhi High Court Orders Removal Of Unauthorised Use Of Bhuvan Bam’s Images Online

Judges at the Delhi High Court directed the removal of Bhuvan Bam’s images from multiple online platforms after finding they were used without his consent.

The court refrained from issuing any interim orders on broader personality rights at this stage.

Justice Jyoti Singh emphasised that the court could not reach a prima facie conclusion on personality rights on the first day of hearing.

The court clarified that it would examine the issue in detail during future proceedings and listed the matter for further hearing in February.

Bhuvan Bam filed a civil suit alleging infringement of his personality and publicity rights. He claimed that multiple individuals and entities had exploited his name, image, voice, likeness, and other elements of his persona without proper authorisation or licence.

The petition further argued that such unauthorised use violated registered trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights jointly owned by him and his company, BB Ki Vines.

Lawyers for Bam emphasised that commercial misuse of his identity could mislead the public and cause confusion regarding endorsements or affiliations.

Furthermore, Bhuvan Bam and BB Ki Vines highlighted that he has acquired significant recognition and goodwill among the public.

They warned that any unauthorised commercial exploitation of his persona diminishes the reputation and value he has built over the years.

The petition stressed the need to protect digital creators’ rights in an era of widespread online content misuse.

Bhuvan Bam’s Rise as a Digital Creator

Audiences recognise Bhuvan Bam as one of India’s leading digital content creators, with over 26.6 million subscribers on YouTube and a large following across Instagram and X.

Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, he launched BB Ki Vines in 2015, producing short, character-driven comedy sketches featuring multiple recurring characters portrayed solely by him. His content, inspired by everyday life, quickly became a viral sensation among young audiences, establishing him as a major figure in India’s digital entertainment space.

Through this ruling, the Delhi High Court has, however, reinforced the protection of online content creators against unauthorised use of their work and persona.
