Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in response to a defamation complaint filed by Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit, who is contesting the New Delhi seat.
The court has sought a reply from the two leaders by January 27, with the next hearing scheduled for the same day.
Sandeep Dixit has filed a defamation suit seeking Rs 10 crore in damages, accusing CM Atishi and Sanjay Singh of falsely alleging that he and Farhad Suri had accepted crores of rupees in cash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the elections.
Dixit strongly rejected the accusations, stating that if he had indeed received such an amount, he would be a criminal. He labelled the allegations made by Atishi and Singh as false and baseless. Dixit also expressed his willingness to face legal action, including CBI and ED raids, if such allegations were true.
In his defence, Sandeep Dixit stated that if he had indeed received the alleged cash, he would have used the money for efforts such as cleaning the Yamuna River and making Delhi pollution-free.
Dixit also criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, noting that years ago Kejriwal had accused the Sheila Dixit government of corruption but failed to provide any proof after coming to power.
The court will hear the defamation case again on January 27, when both sides are expected to present their arguments. The legal battle has drawn significant attention, as it involves prominent political figures from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.
