Allahabad High Court Grants ASI Final Chance To Respond In Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Case

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday granted the Archaeological Survey of India a final opportunity to file its reply in Suit Numbers 1 and 3 connected to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi case in Mathura. The court fixed February 20 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

A single-judge Bench of Justice Avnish Saxena heard the case at around 2 PM. The proceedings involved the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Nirman Trust and five others versus the Shahi Idgah Management Committee and three others.

The case forms part of a series of legal petitions surrounding the long-standing dispute over the religious site in Mathura.

During the hearing, counsel informed the High Court that the Supreme Court will consider a related matter on February 16. Taking note of this development, the Bench decided to fix the next hearing after the apex court’s scheduled proceedings.

The court granted all parties a final opportunity to submit their pending applications or replies. The court made it clear that it would grant no further extensions and would proceed to decide the pending applications on the next date of hearing

The High Court’s direction underscores the need for expeditious disposal of the pending applications in the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi case. Accordingly, by setting a clear deadline for responses, the court signalled its intent to move forward with substantive hearings in the matter.

The case continues to draw significant legal and public attention, given its historical, religious and legal implications.

The upcoming hearings in both the High Court and the Supreme Court are expected to shape the future course of the litigation.
