‘You Made 140 Crore People Proud’: PM Modi Praises India’s Asian Games Athletes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised Indian athletes for their performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, saying they had made 140 crore Indians proud.

Addressing the contingent at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said the athletes had enhanced the glory of the Tricolour through their achievements.

PM Modi said meeting so many medal winners together gave him immense energy and happiness. He added that athletes who channel their passion towards victory bring home medals, spread smiles and make the nation shine.

The Prime Minister congratulated the contingent on behalf of the country and said their success belonged to millions of Indians.

He highlighted India’s achievements in disciplines where the country had never previously won an Asian Games medal. Mixed Martial Arts, Soft Tennis and certain sailing events featured among the disciplines in which Indian athletes created history with their first medals.

Prime MinisterModi said these performances demonstrated the growing reach of Indian sports and opened new possibilities for future competitors.

The Prime Minister urged the athletes to visit schools in their hometowns and villages and encourage children to pursue sports. He asked them to share their experiences with young aspirants and visit the grounds where they began their sporting journeys.

PM Modi said athletes could help children realise their dreams through guidance and encouragement. He emphasised that their personal experiences could motivate aspiring sportspersons to work towards success.

The Prime Minister said athletes should devote time to nurturing young talent and helping the next generation advance in sports. He reiterated that their achievements extended beyond individual medals, bringing pride to the nation and inspiring future champions.
