Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with India’s Asian Games 2026 contingent at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday. Athletes from several disciplines presented him with special mementoes commemorating their achievements at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The gathering included athletes, coaches, support staff, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials, national sports federations and Sports Ministry representatives. India finished fourth in the continental competition with 85 medals.
Wushu exponent Naorem Roshibina Devi from Manipur presented PM Modi with a traditional Manipuri Lengyan, a handwoven loincloth featuring the Sangai deer. She won silver in the women’s 60kg category.
Golfer Pranavi Urs, who secured India’s first women’s individual golf gold at the Asian Games, gifted the Prime Minister her glove and a golf ball.
Recurve archer Kumkum Mohod presented a wooden bow decorated with shells and other embellishments. She won two gold medals and a silver across archery events.
Jay Meena, who claimed bronze in men’s singles squash, gifted PM Modi his racquet. His achievement secured India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport.
The Indian women’s cricket team presented a signed Team India jersey. The women’s hockey team gifted Prime Minister Modi a hockey stick and an orange jersey signed by its players.
The cricketers defended their Asian Games title, while the hockey team won its first gold since 1982.
India finished the Games with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, behind China, Japan and South Korea. Its 85-medal tally ranked second among the country’s Asian Games totals, following the record 106 medals at Hangzhou in 2023.
