Yogi Govt To Promote Family Planning By Hosting ‘Saas, Beta and Bahu Sammelan’

The Yogi government will start the second phase of Population Stabilisation Fortnight, centered on Community Mobilisation. Which will start on June 27 and it will last till July 10 in Uttar Pradesh.

During this time, CM Yogi Adityanath administration will host a range of events. Which will include ‘Sarathi Vahan’ and ‘Saas-Beta-Bahu Sammelan’, aimed at promoting the significance of family planning. The third phase of the fortnight will follow from July 11 to 24.

An official statement mentioned that the Health Department will discuss and make various family planning methods available to eligible and interested individuals. The Health Department is consistently striving to enhance family welfare initiatives and achieve population stabilization. World Population Day, observed annually on July 11, seeks to elevate public awareness about population stabilization.

Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary of Medical, Health, and Family Welfare, has sent a letter with necessary instructions to all District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers in the state. Pinky Jovel, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, highlighted that officials, health workers, and the community actively engage in celebrating Population Fortnight yearly.

Total Fertility Rate

Various family welfare programs are implemented during this period. These initiatives have contributed to a reduction in the state’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR), as shown by the National Family Health Survey. According to NFHS-5 (2019-20), the TFR has decreased to 2.4 from 2.7 in NFHS-4 (2015-16).

Population Stabilization Fortnight

The first phase of Population Stabilization Fortnight commenced on June 1 and will continue till June 20. During this phase, organizers focus on motivating targeted couples and effectively delivering services. Activities include capacity building for service providers, ensuring the availability of family planning methods, and promoting coordination among various departments.

This year’s slogan for Population Fortnight is ‘Viksit Bharat ki Nayi Pehchan, Parivar Niyojan Har Dampati Ki Shaan’, and the theme is ‘Right time and gap of pregnancy for the health of mother and child’.

Family Planning Logistic Management Information System

Suryansh Ojha, General Manager of the Family Welfare Program, stressed that the programme aims to encourage the community to adopt modern family planning methods, train health workers, and improve the Family Planning Logistic Management Information System (FPLMIS) portal. This portal is essential for monitoring and managing family planning supplies and resources at all levels. Districts are encouraged to introduce innovative ideas during the fortnight.
