In a sweeping effort to accommodate millions of devotees, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has launched extensive preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025. The ambitious project is not limited to Prayagraj, traditionally the focal point, but also extends to key religious hubs such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Chitrakoot.
Recognizing the massive footfall expected during the Maha Kumbh, estimated at over 40 crore participants, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized infrastructure upgrades at major religious sites. These efforts prioritize seamless transportation, comfortable accommodations, sanitation, clean drinking water, medical aid, and robust security systems.

Special attention is directed toward iconic locations such as the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, and the Kamadgiri Parikrama route in Chitrakoot. Modern amenities are being integrated to ensure an enriching experience for the pilgrims.
The state’s Urban Development Department has proposed a budget of Rs 65 crore to enhance facilities across several religious sites. This includes:
To cater to the influx, temporary accommodations such as tent cities and Swiss cottages are being planned. Additionally, temporary kitchens will ensure a steady supply of food for devotees. Decorative lighting, mobile generators, heaters, and bonfires will provide comfort, particularly during colder months.
Other key amenities include clean drinking water, mobile and temporary toilets, and dedicated sanitation workers. Beautification projects like wall art and public paintings will add to the spiritual ambiance. Toilet construction will be funded under the Swachh Bharat Mission, while bonfires and blankets will be managed by the Revenue Department’s Disaster Relief wing.
A special committee led by the Divisional Commissioner will oversee these arrangements, ensuring smooth execution of projects. This committee will include officials from the Police, Municipal, Tourism, and Public Works Departments, alongside representatives from the UPSTDC.
The UPSTDC has been designated as the executing agency for tent city and kitchen arrangements. Proposals will undergo evaluation for feasibility and cost before being submitted to the Kumbh Mela Officer. After approval by a top committee, funds will be disbursed from the Maha Kumbh budget.
These grand preparations further reflect the Yogi government’s commitment to making Maha Kumbh 2025 a spiritually uplifting and logistically seamless event. By focusing on holistic development across Uttar Pradesh’s sacred cities, the state aims to provide an unparalleled experience for devotees from across the globe.
