Women Cross 40 Per Cent Workforce Participation In Over Half Of India’s Districts

Women are strengthening their presence in India’s workforce, with 57.8 per cent of districts recording female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of 40 per cent or more. The National Statistics Office released the first district-wise employment data on Friday.

The survey covered 100 districts. Surat in Gujarat recorded the country’s highest LFPR at 68.6 per cent, followed by Araria in Bihar at 68 per cent and Salem in Tamil Nadu at 67.8 per cent.

Surat topped the Worker Population Ratio (WPR) rankings at 67.8 per cent. Araria followed at 67.4 per cent, while Banaskantha in Gujarat recorded 66.6 per cent.

The lowest unemployment rates came from South 24 Parganas in West Bengal and Araria in Bihar, both at 0.9 per cent, followed by Ahmedabad in Gujarat at 1.1 per cent.

For youth aged 15-29, Ernakulam in Kerala recorded a NEET rate of 9.6 per cent. Coimbatore reported 14.5 per cent, while Bengaluru Urban stood at 15 per cent.

Among state capital districts, Shimla recorded the highest LFPR and WPR at 70 per cent and 65.1 per cent, respectively.

Thiruvananthapuram followed at 64.4 per cent and 63.2 per cent, while Raipur recorded 61.5 per cent and 59.4 per cent.

Thiruvananthapuram and Kolkata posted the lowest unemployment rate at 1.9 per cent, followed by Bengaluru Urban at 2.5 per cent.

The report provides localised employment, unemployment and NEET data, offering a detailed picture of labour-market trends across districts.
