PIB Fact Check Rejects False Claim About General Anil Chauhan Drug Case Arrest

The PIB Fact Check Unit has debunked a social media claim alleging that authorities arrested former Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan in a 51.5-kg drug case at his re

The unit labelled the claim fake. It clarified that the video shared with the allegation does not show General Chauhan’s arrest.

According to the PIB Fact Check clarification, the circulated video is unrelated to the alleged drug case. The footage dates back to December 2021 and shows a terrorist ambush targeting police personnel in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir.

The misleading post appears to have reused the old footage while attaching a false claim about the former Chief of Defence Staff.

The PIB Fact Check Unit operates under the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and verifies information related to the Government of India.

The unit says it checks claims against authorised government sources and uses technological tools, including reverse image searches and video analysis, to identify manipulated or miscontextualised content.

The unit publishes verified clarifications through its official social media channels, including X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Telegram and WhatsApp.

The latest clarification highlights the risks of recycled footage being presented with a new and unrelated narrative.

PIB Fact Check urged users to rely on verified information before sharing such claims.
