We Will Forever Be Indebted To Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel For His Service As Deputy Prime Minister And Home Minister, Says PM Modi

In his monthly radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, widely revered as the ‘Iron Man of India,’ for his unwavering commitment to the nation’s freedom struggle.

The Prime Minister emphasised India’s gratitude towards Patel for his pivotal role as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, shaping the young nation with vision and dedication.

The country celebrates Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary this year; he was born on October 31, 1875.

“The 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is a very special occasion for the entire country. Sardar Patel has been one of the greatest luminaries of the nation in modern times,” PM Modi stated.

Reflecting on Patel’s remarkable personality, the Prime Minister noted, “He was an exceptionally brilliant student. He excelled in his studies both in India and Britain. Was also one of the most successful lawyers of his time. He could have earned even more fame in the field of law, but, inspired by Gandhiji, he completely dedicated himself to the freedom movement.”

PM Modi highlighted Patel’s contributions to movements such as the Kheda and Borsad Satyagrahas. He also praised Patel’s tenure as head of Ahmedabad Municipality, where he prioritised cleanliness and efficient governance.

“We will all forever be indebted to him for his contributions as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister also praised Patel for establishing India’s bureaucratic framework. He highlighted Patel’s unmatched efforts to preserve the country’s unity and integrity.

Every year, India commemorates Sardar Patel’s birth with the ‘Run For Unity’. The event takes place nationwide to honour his legacy. It also promotes physical fitness among participants.

“I urge all of you to participate in the Run For Unity, organised across the country on October 31, Sardar Saheb’s birth anniversary, and not just participate alone, but along with others. This should become an opportunity for youth awakening; this run for unity will strengthen unity. This will be our true tribute to that great luminary who united India,” PM Modi noted.
