APSEZ Champions Sustainable Maritime Growth And Indigenous Innovation At India Maritime Week 2025

India’s largest port operator, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), is taking centre stage at India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 to demonstrate how technology, homegrown innovation, and inclusive practices are shaping the nation’s Blue Economy.

The event, running from 27 to 31 October at Mumbai’s Bombay Exhibition Centre, brings together over 100,000 delegates, 500 exhibitors, and 200 international speakers from more than 100 countries.

Organised by the Indian Ports Association under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, IMW 2025 aims to chart India’s maritime ambitions and global connectivity.

APSEZ’s pavilion is a showcase of the company’s contributions to India’s maritime sector, highlighting the use of Make-in-India solutions, sustainable practices, and inclusive initiatives.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will attend on 29 October. His visit coincides with the Global Maritime CEO Forum. This, however, emphasises India’s aspiration to take a leading role in global maritime affairs.

India’s maritime vision has expanded rapidly over the past decade through the Sagarmala and Maritime Vision 2030 initiatives, which include more than 150 projects in ports, shipping, and inland waterways.

These programmes focus on cost-efficient logistics, port-led development, and environmentally responsible coastal infrastructure, aligning with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.

APSEZ has grown from a single port in Mundra, Gujarat, in the 1990s to operating 15 ports in India and four overseas. This growth is, however, supported by 12 multimodal logistics parks, 132 rakes, and a fleet of over 5,000 vehicles.

Today, it handles nearly a quarter of India’s cargo, making it the country’s largest integrated transport operator.

At IMW 2025, the APSEZ pavilion focuses on four pillars: self-reliance, women empowerment, AI-powered logistics, and social impact.

Several MoUs will be signed to expand India’s port, dredging, and harbour capabilities under the Make-in-India framework.

The Harbour Business segment includes agreements with:

  • Mumbai Port Authority for ASTDS and Green tugs,
  • VO Chidambaranar Port Authority for harbour tugs,
  • Chennai Port Authority for an Escort Tug Vessel, and
  • Directorate General of Shipping for the construction of 12 tugboats

In dredging, APSEZ will sign an MoU for a self-propelled grab dredger. It will also finalise agreements for Vadhvan, Haldia, Vizhinjam LNG bunkering, and Dighi ports.

A standout feature at the pavilion is India’s first Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) simulator, developed indigenously by ARI Simulation. It reinforces domestic engineering capabilities.

Inclusivity remains a priority: Vizhinjam Port now employs India’s first women quay crane operators, blending technology and skill development to create equal opportunities.

APSEZ’s Zero Touch Multi-Modal Logistics Platform integrates ports, rail, road, and waterways. Moreover, it uses AI-driven analytics, which enhances efficiency. As a result, the platform significantly reduces logistics costs.

Through Adani Skills & Education, over 8,000 youth have been trained in ports and logistics, achieving full employment.

The Karma Shiksha programme, however, provides NCVET-accredited diplomas combining classroom and hands-on training.

India’s Blue Economy, contributing 4% of GDP ($13.2 billion), spans fisheries, renewable energy, coastal tourism, and logistics.

To support these goals, APSEZ uses electrified cranes and carbon-neutral terminals. Additionally, it implements wastewater recycling and the Green Tug Transition Programme.

Globally, APSEZ operates in Israel, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Tanzania, supporting India’s SAGAR Vision by strengthening regional trade and cooperation.

“As India navigates the Decade of the Seas, APSEZ’s leadership, rooted in Make-in-India innovation, digital transformation and inclusive growth, embodies the nation’s maritime ambition: self-reliant, sustainable, and ready to lead the Global South,” the company said.
