Voting Day Arrives As Kerala, Assam, And Puducherry Head To Polls

Polling is being conducted today across Kerala, Assam and Puducherry, covering a total of 296 assembly constituencies. The voting marks the end of nearly a month of intense campaigning. The results are scheduled to be declared on May 4.

A total of 1,849 candidates are contesting in this phase. Key battles are shaped by strong political rhetoric, development agendas and leadership contests.

In Kerala, the electoral contest has largely revolved around a three-way fight. The main contenders are the Left Democratic Front (LDF), the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Prominent leaders such as PM Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and Pinarayi Vijayan played a central role in campaigning.

Assam Votes Amid Tight Political Contest

In Assam, the election has focused on the governance record of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside a strong challenge from the Congress led by Gaurav Gogoi. The campaign period witnessed sharp exchanges between the BJP and Congress, also intensifying the political atmosphere.

The Election Commission of India stated that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure smooth polling. Webcasting facilities have been deployed at all polling stations, and security forces have been stationed in sensitive areas. More than 2.5 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the state.

Polling is also taking place in Puducherry for all 30 assembly seats. A total of 294 candidates are contesting in the Union Territory, where over 9.5 lakh voters are expected to participate in the democratic exercise.

Today’s polling also represents a crucial political moment across all three regions, with outcomes likely to influence regional dynamics and national narratives.

With campaigning concluded, the focus has now shifted entirely to voter turnout and the eventual results that will be declared on May 4.
