Voter Turnout At 11:00 AM: West Bengal At 39.97% In Phase 2

Polling in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 reached 39.97 per cent by 11 AM on Wednesday, slightly below the 41.1 per cent turnout reported during the same period in the first phase held earlier this month.

Among districts, East Burdwan registered the highest participation at 44.50 per cent, followed by Hooghly with 43.12 per cent. Nadia recorded 40.34 per cent, while Howrah stood at 39.45 per cent. North 24 Parganas saw 38.43 per cent voting, with Kolkata (North) at 38.39 per cent. South 24 Parganas reported 37.92 per cent turnout, and Kolkata (South) logged the lowest at 36.78 per cent.

Despite being lower than the first phase, the turnout remained significantly higher than the 28.10 per cent recorded during the same time window in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a political development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari to assess the polling situation in Bhabanipur, where he is contesting against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Reports noted scattered incidents of unrest. Tension persisted in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas, where a team from the National Investigation Agency arrived in connection with ongoing probes into an explosion and the recovery of crude explosives ahead of polling.

The Bharatiya Janata Party also called for fresh voting in the Falta constituency, following disputes involving officials and political candidates over alleged irregularities.

In North 24 Parganas’ Kanchrapara, a Trinamool Congress councillor was involved in an altercation with an Independent candidate near a polling booth, prompting police intervention.

Separately, in Nadia’s Chapra constituency, central forces detained a Trinamool Congress polling agent on allegations of attempting to influence voters.

Authorities said polling is continuing under close monitoring across all constituencies.
