Vijayadashami: PM Modi Connects Ramlila Traditions With India’s Cultural Identity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Vijayadashami programme hosted by the Shri Ramlila Committee Indraprastha at the DDA Utsav Ground in Patparganj’s IP Extension area on Tuesday.

He joined the traditional Ravana Dahan ceremony and spoke about the continuing relevance of Ramlila in India’s cultural life.

The Prime Minister began by paying respects to Lord Ram, Mother Janaki and Bajrangbali before conveying his Vijayadashami wishes to the public.

“Today, every corner of India is imbued with the spirit of Lord Ram—in every village and every city. The entire nation is immersed in the spirit of the Ramlila,” he said.

PM Modi described Ramlila as a living cultural tradition that preserves Lord Ram’s ideals and conveys the message that truth ultimately triumphs over falsehood.

“For us, this is not merely a festival. It is the life force of India,” he stated, adding that Vijayadashami showcases India’s civilisational values and celebrates the victory of good over evil.

Protecting Heritage and Strengthening Unity

The Prime Minister stressed the need to balance India’s development with respect for its cultural roots. He also emphasised the importance of preserving the country’s national identity.

He cited the return of more than 650 ancient artefacts and idols over the past 12 years. He also referred to UNESCO’s recognition of Indian traditions, including Diwali.

PM Modi urged political parties and institutions to set aside their differences. He called on them to work together for the country’s welfare.

PM Modi urged citizens to resist attempts to damage India’s reputation. He also called on them to oppose social divisions and hostility towards the country’s cultural traditions.

Drawing on the concept of Ramrajya, PM Modi highlighted the need for fair and inclusive governance. He also stressed that the system must ensure equal opportunities, deliver justice and reject discrimination.

He said the needs of poor and marginalised communities should remain central to public policy.
