Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at his official residence. During the meeting, Dhami presented Modi with a famous handmade shawl from the Chamoli region.
The meeting comes as Uttarakhand is finalizing preparations for the roll-out of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which is expected to take place later this month. Dhami has previously stated that the state will implement the UCC in 2025. Sources suggest that the Chief Minister aims to launch the law by Makar Sankranti on January 14 or Republic Day.
Dhami’s meeting with Modi strengthens rumors that the UCC will be launched soon. It is understood that Dhami sought Modi’s blessings before the final roll-out.

Dhami shared details of his meeting on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he received guidance from the Prime Minister on various issues. “I met the great visionary who plays the role of a yagnik in the great yagya of the nation’s progress. I received guidance on various subjects. I also presented him with a famous handmade shawl from Malari (Chamoli) and a replica of Narayan Ashram in Pithoragarh,” Dhami wrote.
The Uttarakhand government has been taking steps to ensure the smooth implementation of the UCC. State officials are undergoing training until January 20, and specialized mobile applications and assistance centers have been set up to facilitate the process.
Recently, the Uttarakhand Home Secretary held a review meeting on the preparations, attended by District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates.
Uttarakhand, under BJP rule, is set to become the first state to implement the UCC. The law will cover matters such as marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance, applying to all residents regardless of religion, caste, or community.
