Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the country’s leading state in rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, surpassing Gujarat with more than 8.80 lakh installations.
The latest figures place UP marginally ahead of Gujarat in cumulative installations under the scheme.
Uttar Pradesh Energy and Additional Energy Sources Minister AK Sharma visited the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) office in Lucknow to review the progress of the solar programme.
He congratulated officers, employees, authorised vendors, banking partners and other stakeholders for their contribution to the achievement.
Sharma also called for faster implementation and directed officials to ensure that more citizens receive the benefits of rooftop solar energy.
The PM Surya Ghar scheme has expanded rapidly across Uttar Pradesh, with the state recording 8,80,118 rooftop solar systems by October 6, according to figures based on the national portal.
Gujarat stood second with 8,78,450 installations.
The programme also supports household energy savings while creating opportunities across the renewable-energy sector.
AK Sharma’s review comes as Uttar Pradesh continues to expand rooftop solar adoption through coordinated efforts involving UPNEDA, electricity departments, distribution companies, banks and authorised vendors.
The state government aims to accelerate clean-energy adoption and extend the benefits of solar power to more households, strengthening energy security while supporting the wider renewable-energy ecosystem.
