In a significant development, thirteen newly elected members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council took their oaths of office today in the state capital.
These legislators, elected unopposed earlier this year in March, marked their formal induction with the swearing-in ceremony.
The composition of the newly sworn-in council reflects the political strength of both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Samajwadi Party (SP).
Out of the thirteen members, ten belong to the NDA coalition, while the remaining three represent the Samajwadi Party.
Within the NDA fold, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded seven candidates and allocated the remaining three seats to its allies – Apna Dal (Sonelal), Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP), and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
This strategic distribution underscores the alliance’s unity and commitment in the legislative process.
Among the notable BJP candidates who began their second consecutive term in the Legislative Council are former ministers Mahendra Singh and Ashok Kataria, as well as BJP state vice-presidents Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Dharmendra Singh.
BJP’s state vice-presidents Mohit Beniwal, Santosh Singh, and former Jhansi mayor Ram Tirath Singhal took their oaths, marking their inaugural term.
Representing the BJP’s allies in the council are Ashish Patel from Apna Dal (Sonelal), Yogesh Chaudhary from RLD, and Vichhelal Rajbhar from SBSP, each bringing their unique perspectives and regional influence to the legislative body.
On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party, in line with its current strength in the UP assembly, nominated three candidates who were also sworn in today.
The SP’s roster includes seasoned leader Balram Yadav, former lawmaker Shah Alam Guddu Jamali, and Kiranpal Kashyap, showcasing a balanced representation of experience and new energy within the party’s ranks.
