As preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025 intensify, the Uttar Pradesh government is rolling out a massive security plan to ensure the safety of millions of devotees and high-profile guests likely to attend the world’s largest religious gathering in Prayagraj.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a robust security framework will be in place, including the deployment of snipers, National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, and other specialized forces.
Scheduled to begin in January 2025 with the Makar Sankranti festival, the Maha Kumbh is likely to attract over 400 million people, including diplomats and dignitaries from across the globe.
In light of the vast scale of the event, security has been prioritized to protect both attendees and high-profile visitors.
SSP Rajesh Dwivedi, in charge of Maha Kumbh security, emphasized the significance of the event and outlined the security plan.
He stated, “Maha Kumbh is the largest congregation of faith in the world, and with such a large number of attendees, stringent security measures are a necessity.”
Authorities will implement extensive security arrangements during Maha Kumbh 2025, conducting water, land, and air patrols throughout Prayagraj. Alongside local law enforcement, specialized forces will secure key locations:
Ensuring safety on the water will be a priority, as devotees flock to the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
To manage this, two contingents from Uttarakhand’s Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), which specializes in underwater operations, will be stationed at the Sangam.
These units will include one DSP, 4 inspectors, 20 sub-inspectors, and over 100 constables and head constables.
High-tech surveillance, including anti-drone systems, will be a key feature of the security measures.
This is to prevent any potential aerial threats, particularly in areas where diplomats and high-profile guests will be present. Bulletproof outposts will also be placed at entry and exit points for added security.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has however issued clear directives to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the Maha Kumbh 2025.
The security apparatus will not only focus on safeguarding the millions of pilgrims but also cater to the numerous international guests expected to attend.
“We aim to provide a secure environment where devotees can immerse themselves in the spiritual experience without fear,” said SSP Dwivedi.
As the countdown to the Maha Kumbh 2025 begins, the Uttar Pradesh government remains committed to implementing comprehensive safety protocols, ensuring a seamless and secure event for all attendees.
