UPSC Updates : Separate Exams for Indian Railways Starting Next Year

The Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will be recruited starting in 2023 through a newly created exam, according to the Ministry of Railways. The Union Public Service Commission will oversee the IRMS Examination (UPSC). The Department of Personnel Training and the UPSC were consulted during the decision-making process by the Ministry (DoPT). The IRMSE will include two levels of testing, starting with a preliminary screening exam and continuing with a main written exam and interview.

Eligible candidates will be needed to take the Civil Services (Prelims) exam in order to choose a sufficient number of candidates for the examination’s second stage, the IRMS main written exam.

The essay-style questions on the IRMS (Main) test are distributed across four exams.

The qualifying papers in Part 1 are worth 600 points. For one of the languages listed in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, this section will serve as paper A. The language will be an option for the candidate. English-language test item B.

Two optional subjects worth 250 each will make up Part 2. Candidates have a selection of commerce and accountancy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and civil engineering. All optional papers will follow the same syllabus as the Civil Services Exam.

A 100-mark personality test would make up Part 3 of the exam. The total number of marks that can be earned is 1200.

Candidates must hold a degree in engineering, commerce, or chartered accounting from “a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956” as a minimum educational requirement. The age restrictions and the number of attempts for various categories will be the same as those for the CiviCRM exam. The results will be compiled and made public by UPSC as a single list of highly recommended candidates from the four disciplines, listed according to their merit.
