New Delhi witnessed a vibrant display of patriotism and civic spirit as the PNB Soldierathon 2026 was held with the theme “Run with Soldiers, Run for Soldiers.”
The event, which began at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, brought together thousands of participants, highlighting a unique blend of fitness, national pride, and social responsibility.
At the heart of the event was Upendrra Rai, CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network. He actively participated in the run and also played a leading role in flagging off the marathon, energising the crowd, and instilling a strong sense of nationalism among attendees.
Speaking to the media, CMD Rai shared the core objective of the event and his long association with it. He said, “I have been associated with this programme for many years. Major Poonia (Rtd) and General VK Singh (Rtd) started this initiative.
The funds raised through this marathon are deposited in two institutions in Pune and Mohali dedicated to the welfare of disabled soldiers.”
He also delivered a message, saying
When a person is depressed, troubled, or struggling with life’s challenges, they should spend a few hours at these two places (soldier welfare centres). Last year, when the race was held in Pune, I visited and met several warriors. Some had lost their hands, others their legs, but I salute their courage. Such experiences give a new direction to life.
On the subject of nationalism and respect for the armed forces, Bharat Express CMD highlighted India’s cultural values.
He said, “India is a nationalist country, and a unique wave of nationalism is visible across the nation. At a time when the world is facing war and terrorism, India has always stood for peace. Indianness, nationalism, dedication, and patriotism are our guiding principles.”
He further added, “Our Sanatan culture first teaches us peace. But for those who repeatedly disturb that peace, Lord Ram teaches us that the bow on his shoulder and the arrow in his hand are a strong response to those who spread unrest.”
The PNB Soldierathon emerged not just as a fitness event but as a powerful platform to express gratitude towards the nation’s soldiers, with Upendrra Rai’s presence adding renewed energy to the occasion.
