UP Leading India’s Growth Story While Preserving Heritage: MP Dinesh Sharma

Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma said that Uttar Pradesh, known as the land of culture and tradition, is playing a leading role in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He said the state government is writing a new chapter of development while moving forward with its heritage intact. As the country’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh has set itself firmly on the path to becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.

Addressing a programme organised in Jaipur on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day, Dr Sharma said the tradition of celebrating foundation days of different states at Rajasthan’s Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) is commendable. He noted that the occasion highlights the contribution of people from various states in Rajasthan’s progress.

He said the foundation of Uttar Pradesh was laid in 1937, and the state formally came into existence on January 24, 1950. Over time, the state has had different capitals. Rich in natural, cultural, and literary heritage, Uttar Pradesh has produced eminent personalities such as Munshi Premchand, Mahadevi Verma, Birju Maharaj, Lachhu Maharaj, and Naushad, who have shaped its identity.

Infrastructure, Investment And Law & Order Transformation

Dr Sharma said Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leading example across sectors. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has witnessed all-round development.

He described Uttar Pradesh as a model state in terms of law and order and said it has become the first choice for investors. The state also has the largest budget among Indian states.

He said new records are being set continuously in production and infrastructure development. Roads that were once difficult to navigate have now transformed into modern expressways, making Uttar Pradesh an expressway state.

Residents of seven districts are benefiting from metro rail services for local transport. While the state had only two airports before 2014, it now operates flights from 22 airports.

The former deputy chief minister said that after the BJP government came to power in the state, eight lakh youths have been provided government jobs, while around 2.5 crore employment opportunities have been created indirectly.

He added that the unemployment rate has declined significantly. Asia’s largest data centre is located in Noida, and Uttar Pradesh now ranks first in the country in mobile phone manufacturing.

Cultural Revival, Defence Corridor And Welfare Outreach

Speaking as a representative of the Uttar Pradesh government, Dr Sharma said the defence corridor has transformed the state’s identity. Once known for illegal firearms, the state is now manufacturing missiles and automatic rifles.

He recalled that during the last Mahakumbh, 66 crore people participated, showcasing the strength of Sanatan tradition in what he described as a unique event.

He said projects such as the Kashi Corridor and the Ram Temple are setting new benchmarks in attracting tourists, while development work continues at religious sites such as Mathura and Chitrakoot. The One District One Product initiative has given districts of the state recognition at national and global levels.

Dr Sharma added that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of beneficiaries of the welfare schemes of the Modi-Yogi government. Along with roads, electricity and water, internet connectivity has also reached villages. A state that was once mocked as a ‘backward’ region is now emerging as a leading state.

He also appreciated the Rajasthan Governor’s efforts to promote organic farming, describing the occasion as a day of inspiration. He said Uttar Pradesh’s prosperity is linked with neighbouring states, including Rajasthan. Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde also addressed the programme as the chief guest.
