Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed his condolences on Wednesday following the demise of Ramakrishna Mission President Swami Smaranananda. Swami Smaranananda passed away on Tuesday night due to age-related diseases. He was 95 years old. “The death of Swami Smaranananda, the acclaimed president of Ramakrishna Mission, greatly saddens us and is an ‘irreparable loss’ to the spiritual world,” stated Adityanath on X.
The chief minister paid his respects and expressed heartfelt sympathies to Swami Smaranananda’s devotees and the deceased’s family. “May the departed saint rest in eternal peace in the holy abode, and may the Ramakrishna family find the courage to bear this great loss.”
Swami Smaranananda, the 16th president of the Ramakrishna Mission founded by Swami Vivekananda, was hospitalized at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan in Kolkata on January 29th due to an illness causing respiratory difficulties. His health deteriorated, requiring ventilator support from March 3, and he passed away last night.
Swami Smaranananda was born in Andami village, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, in 1929. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by his aunt. He completed his secondary education in Chennai with commendable results in 1946. Following his father’s relocation to Nasik, he pursued and completed a diploma course in commerce there. Subsequently, he moved to Mumbai in 1949, where he took up employment and continued his studies. Swami Smaranananda had a keen interest in literature, particularly English literary works and self-help books by Napoleon Hill. He was also deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings.
