On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met the distraught family of Ram Gopal Mishra, who tragically lost his life in the recent violence that erupted in Bahraich district.
The meeting took place in Lucknow, as the bereaved family sought justice for their son’s untimely death.
Violent clashes during the Durga idol immersion procession in Maharajganj, Bahraich, on Sunday resulted in the killing of Ram Gopal Mishra.
His family, accompanied by local BJP MLA Sureshwar Singh, traveled from their village of Rehuva Mansoor to the state capital to share their sorrow and demand justice for the brutal incident.
The meeting saw Ram Gopal’s parents visibly heartbroken, with his elderly father often wiping his eyes with his ‘gamchha’, unable to hold back tears.
The family’s grief was overwhelming as they pleaded for swift and strict action against those responsible for the fatal violence.
After the meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his condolences and assure the family of the government’s unwavering support.
CM Adityanath posted, “I met the grief-stricken family members of the youth who died in the unfortunate incident in Bahraich district. In this hour of grief, the Uttar Pradesh government stands with the victim’s family with full sensitivity and commitment. Rest assured, providing justice to the victim’s family is the top priority of the UP government. The culprits of this extremely reprehensible and unforgivable incident will not be spared at any cost.”
The violence in Bahraich had escalated rapidly, resulting in widespread unrest and damage.
The tragic killing of Ram Gopal sparked outrage, with angry crowds setting ablaze several shops, including a tyre shop and a grocery store, in the vicinity of Hospital Square.
Additionally, reports emerged of people pelting stones and attacking public property, including a fire brigade vehicle.
Authorities have since imposed stringent security measures to bring the situation under control. They have also deployed special forces, including the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Special Task Force (STF), and local police, in large numbers across Bahraich.
Meanwhile, internet services remain suspended, and the district is under heavy surveillance to prevent further unrest.
MLA Sureshwar Singh expressed the family’s frustration, asserting, “The family is adamant that the shooter should face the same fate as their son, insisting on a police encounter as a form of retribution.”
As of Tuesday evening, peace has restored in Bahraich, although the area remains tense.
Meanwhile, no further incidents of violence have been reported, but security forces continue to maintain a tight grip on the situation to ensure that calm prevails.
Additionally, the administration has promised a thorough investigation and rapid action to bring those responsible to justice.
