On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ in Delhi to mark National Unity Day, commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision of a united and developed India. Shah encouraged participants to pledge to make India fully developed by 2047. “Take a pledge to make India a developed India through unity,” he urged the crowd gathered for the run.
Delhi Police trainees joined the event, sharing their thoughts on the importance of unity. A young trainee from Uttar Pradesh expressed pride in celebrating Patel’s legacy: “We’re running to honour Sardar Patel’s dream of a united India.” Traditionally held on October 31, the event was moved to October 29 this year due to Diwali, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address.
The event began at 7:40 a.m., with over 7,700 participants rallying from gate number 1 of Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and ending at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Statue. The route passed through C-Hexagon and Radial Road, symbolizing national unity. Another trainee, Anjali, expressed excitement, noting, “It’s amazing to be part of this run. This Unity Run honors Sardar Patel, the ‘Iron Man’ who united India.”
Fellow trainee Pappu Yadav emphasized the unity message, saying, “With this run, we want to show the world that Indians stand united in diversity. Bharat Mata ki Jai!”
The Unity Run highlighted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s significant role in India’s history, reminding participants of his work in unifying the nation. Through events like the Unity Run, the government aims to honor Patel’s vision, strengthening the spirit of national cohesion and unity.
