Union Health Minister Stresses Need For More Super Specialty Hospitals In Northeast India

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, emphasized the need for more super specialty hospitals in the Northeast region, while inaugurating crucial healthcare facilities in Assam on Wednesday. Nadda’s visit focused on enhancing healthcare services to improve medical access for the people in the region.

As part of his visit, Union Minister Nadda inaugurated several new initiatives at key healthcare institutions. He began by visiting the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) in Tezpur, where he inaugurated the new Library and Informatics Centre. The development of these facilities is aimed at strengthening the institution’s research and education capacities in the mental health sector.

Addressing The Need For Super Speciality Departments

During his visit, Nadda stressed the importance of expanding healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast. “There is a pressing need to introduce more super specialty departments to better serve the Northeast and the nation as a whole,” he said. This call for more advanced medical departments aligns with the government’s focus on improving healthcare access and quality in underserved regions.

The Union Health Minister then proceeded to the Mangaldai District Civil Hospital in Darrang district, where he laid the foundation stone for a new 50-bed Critical Care Block. The facility, to be built with a financial support of Rs 23.75 crore under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), will significantly enhance access to advanced healthcare services in Assam.

The Critical Care Block expect to provide much-needed medical resources to address critical conditions, benefiting thousands of patients in the region.

Advancements In Cancer Care For Assam

In addition to the critical care facility, Nadda visited ongoing cancer treatment projects in Darrang, including a cancer hospital and a cancer care project under Tata Trusts. “Earlier, people of Assam had to travel out of the state for cancer treatment, but now, the people of Darrang can receive their treatment right here at home,” Nadda said, highlighting the improvements in local healthcare that will reduce the burden on patients and families.

Nadda also visited AIIMS Guwahati, where he reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction and development of the institution. During the visit, he planted a sapling on the hospital campus, symbolizing growth and development. The minister took stock of the ongoing efforts at AIIMS Guwahati to provide world-class medical services and enhance healthcare facilities for the people of Assam and the entire Northeast region.

Commitment To Healthcare Development In The Northeast

Nadda’s visit underscored the central government’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges in the Northeast. With several initiatives underway, including the establishment of new critical care facilities and specialized departments, the government aims to improve medical access, especially for complex and life-threatening conditions. The Union Minister’s efforts reflect the larger goal of making healthcare more accessible and advanced across India, particularly in regions with significant infrastructure gaps.
