Union Budget Is A Long-Term Roadmap, Not Market-Driven: PM Modi

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified that the Union Budget is a comprehensive plan that guides India’s long-term progress, rather than a document driven by immediate market considerations.

He was addressing the opening session of the post-Budget webinar series for 2026–27 in the national capital.

He explained that the real value of the Budget lies in measurable progress, including the expansion of infrastructure, smoother availability of credit, better ease of doing business, improved transparency in governance and the generation of fresh opportunities for citizens.

The Prime Minister emphasised that people should not treat the Budget as an isolated annual exercise. Instead, he said, it forms part of an ongoing and evolving nation-building effort.

“Every budget is a stage toward moving to a larger goal, and that big goal is the construction of a Developed India (Viksit Bharat) by the year 2047. Therefore, every reform, every allocation, and every change should be seen as an integral part of this long journey,” he noted.

Underlining the importance of post-Budget discussions, PM Modi said these webinars should function as serious brainstorming forums rather than routine deliberations.

He pointed out that insights drawn from stakeholders’ real-world experiences and operational difficulties would assist the government in fine-tuning policies and identifying practical remedies.

Reflecting on the passage of 25 years of the 21st century, the Prime Minister described the present moment as decisive for India’s economic journey.

He attributed the country’s sustained resilience to reforms undertaken with clear intent and determination over the years.

From Policy Design to High-Quality Delivery

PM Modi stressed that strong policy design alone is insufficient at this stage.

The focus must now shift firmly to high-quality delivery, supported by effective grievance redressal systems to track impact.

To strengthen long-term capital inflows and encourage foreign investors, he announced additional steps to simplify the foreign investment regime.

He concluded by stating that while governments can establish enabling frameworks, meaningful results depend on proactive participation from all stakeholders.
