Unexpected Meeting Between CM Nitish Kumar and Governor Sparks Speculation, Is Bihar in for Another Political Surprise?

The political climate in Bihar has experienced a sudden surge as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an unexpected visit to Raj Bhavan to meet with Governor Rajendra Arlekar. Accompanying the Chief Minister was senior JDU leader Vijay Chaudhary. Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar had participated in a government event before heading to the Governor’s residence, prompting speculation and concern among political analysts.

Nitish Kumar visit to Raj Bhavan

Prior to meeting the Governor, Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, paid homage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 127th birth anniversary. The JDU shared on its official account about a commemorative event held in Patna, attended by notable figures such as Rajendra Arlekar, CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, and Finance Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

The meeting between the CM and the Governor reportedly lasted around 40 minutes, with sources suggesting that the discussion revolved around the upcoming budget session. However, political experts in Patna speculate that Nitish Kumar might be considering rejoining the NDA. This speculation gained traction after Home Minister Amit Shah, in a recent interview, hinted at the possibility, stating that NDA’s doors are open for Nitish Kumar if he expresses interest.

To understand Nitish Kumar’s political journey, it’s essential to note key turning points. In 1994, he rebelled against the alliance with Lalu Yadav, leading to the formation of the Samata Party with George Fernandez. In 2013, Nitish distanced himself from the NDA when Narendra Modi was appointed as the Chairman of the Lok Sabha Election Committee. In 2015, he formed a grand alliance with RJD and Congress, securing a majority in the government. However, in 2017, due to differences, Nitish Kumar severed ties with RJD and rejoined the NDA.

In a surprising move in 2022, Nitish Kumar once again left the NDA, emphasizing his reluctance to ally with the BJP. His vow not to form an alliance with the BJP again raised questions about the duration of this commitment. Only time will tell how enduring Nitish Kumar’s resolve proves to be in the ever-changing landscape of Bihar politics.
