Two Terrorists Killed In Ongoing Encounter In Jammu & Kashmir’s Kulgam

Joint security forces killed another terrorist Monday in an ongoing encounter with militants in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

With this, the number of terrorists killed in the gunfight has risen to two.

Officials said security forces launched the operation in Kulgam’s Gudar forest following intelligence about terrorists’ presence.

A junior commissioned officer (JCO) and other soldiers sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and were shifted to the hospital for treatment.

Security Forces Intensify Operations

A gunfight broke out when joint forces began a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Gudar forest. As the troops advanced, the terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce encounter.

Officials said joint forces have intensified anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting not only armed militants but also overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers.

Security agencies stressed that dismantling the ecosystem of terror requires a broader focus. They said eliminating terrorists is vital, but they must also give equal attention to those who provide logistical and financial support.

Pakistan’s Role in Sustaining Terrorism

Officials pointed out that after the suspension of ‘Operation Sindoor’, attempts of infiltration have increased from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC).

Jammu and Kashmir shares a 740-km-long LoC guarded by the army and a 240-km-long International Border in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, guarded by the BSF.

With support from Pakistan, terror outfits have been using drones to drop weapons, drugs, and cash along the International Border.

The BSF is employing anti-drone technology to counter these attempts. Security agencies also said drug smuggling and hawala networks are financing terrorism, with roots traced back to handlers based in Pakistan.
