Two Injured, Six Arrested In Sector-39 Police Encounter With Suspected RRU Thieves

Sector-39 Police foiled a major telecom equipment theft operation during a late-night check on August 9, 2025, near the Bakhtavarpur underpass.

Officers spotted two approaching cars and signalled for them to stop. However, the occupants abruptly turned onto the service road in an attempt to escape.

Suspicious of their behaviour, the police pursued the vehicles. In the chase, an Aura car without a number plate crashed into a tree near the foot-over bridge.

As the suspects exited the vehicle, they allegedly opened fire on the officers with the intent to kill. Police returned fire in self-defence, injuring two suspects.

Injured Suspects Identified

The injured men were identified as Abid, son of Fateh Mohammad, and Farukh, son of Farakat, both residents of Bazheda Kala, Hapur, with current addresses in Tronica City, Ghaziabad.

From their possession, police recovered two country-made pistols and two spent cartridges.

Six Accomplices Arrested in a Combined Operation

A subsequent combing operation led to the arrest of six accomplices: Faizan (Hapur), Ayaan (Sambhal), Mumtaz (Meerut), Istkhar (Meerut), Mohammad Moin (Bijnor), and Mohammad Kaif (Bijnor). Most were residing in Tronica City, Ghaziabad, at the time of arrest.

The operation yielded significant recoveries, including two Aura cars, four Remote Radio Units (RRUs), two bundles of tower cables, and burglary tools such as cutters and saws.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing one RRU from a tower near Sector-100, Century Apartments, and the others from Delhi, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.

Criminal Backgrounds Under Investigation

Police confirmed that all suspects are from different districts, and checks into their criminal histories are underway. The injured have been hospitalised, and legal proceedings are in progress.

A senior police officer commended the swift action of the Sector-39 team, noting that the recovery of critical telecom infrastructure equipment has potentially prevented large-scale network disruptions.
