Trump Says India Is Offering Us A Zero Tariff Trade Deal

US President Donald Trump claimed that India has offered to enter a bilateral trade deal with the United States that “basically” proposes that “no tariff” would be levied on a range of American goods.

“They are offering us a deal where they are willing to charge us no tariffs,” Trump said on Thursday during a meeting with business executives in Qatar’s capital, Doha, where he is on a state visit.

Donald Trump is on a four day visit of Middle East where he will visit three coutries Including Saudi Arebia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Trump says don’t want Apple to Build In India

The US President also said that he spoke to Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook discouraged him from expanding operations in India. “I said I don’t want you building in India,” the US President mentioned his conversation with Cook.

As a result, Apple will be “upping its production in the United States”.

The US president’s remarks come at a time when New Delhi is making attempts to seek a trade deal with Washington within a 90-day pause on the sweeping reciprocal tariffs. Trump has imposed a 26 per cent levy on India during his April 9 “Liberation Day” announcements.

As part on ongoing discussion on the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, repersentative of India’s department of Commerce and Office of the US Trade Representative held fruitful dicussions, at a meeting in Washigton, from April 23-25, to conclude the first tranche of the Bilateral Trade Agreement by the fall (September-October) of 2025.

While productive sectoral expert-level engagements have taken place through the virtual format, in-person sectoral engagements are planned from end of May, the statement said.

The productive discussions are part of bilateral efforts in line with the ‘Leaders’ Statement of February 2025’ to enhance and expand India-US economic ties and supply chain integration through the Bilateral Trade Agreement, it added.
