The Tripura administration has stepped up verification measures following a deadly attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, with officials conducting door-to-door visits to check residents’ property and citizenship documents.
According to reports, officials are asking households in the affected area to visit the tehsil office and submit documents establishing ownership of their houses and land, along with valid citizenship records.
The verification exercise aims to establish whether residents possess legal documents for the properties they occupy.
Officials have reportedly informed households about the requirements through visits to their homes.
The administration has warned of legal action against residents who fail to establish ownership or produce valid property records.
Possible action could include the removal of unauthorised structures, raising the prospect of bulldozer action against properties found to be illegally occupied.
Any action against disputed properties will have to follow established legal procedures, with residents given an opportunity to present their documents and establish their claims.
The attack on BSF personnel has heightened security concerns in the region, making the identification of those responsible and appropriate legal action important priorities.
At the same time, the verification exercise concerns property and citizenship records and should distinguish between individuals involved in the attack and other residents of the area.
The administration’s action will determine the legal status of properties under scrutiny, while the response to the attack will remain focused on accountability and security.
