A rape survivor has come forward with disturbing allegations of sexual abuse against a magistrate in Tripura. The incident reportedly occurred on February 16 inside the chamber of first-class judicial magistrate Kamalpur, where the survivor had gone to have her statement recorded in connection with her rape case.
According to the survivor’s complaint lodged with the additional district and sessions judge in Kamalpur, she was groped by the magistrate while attempting to provide her statement. Upon experiencing the assault, she immediately left the chamber and informed lawyers and her husband about the harrowing ordeal. Subsequently, her husband filed a separate complaint with the Kamalpur Bar Association, prompting action.

In response to the allegations, a three-member panel led by District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Satyajit Das, initiated a probe into the matter. They visited Kamalpur’s additional district and sessions judge’s office to investigate further, engaging with members of the local bar association to gather insights into the situation.
While the Tripura High Court’s Registrar General, V Pandey, acknowledged the reports of the incident through media and social platforms, no official complaint has been received as of yet. Pandey emphasized the need for a formal complaint to be lodged before appropriate action could be taken.
The allegations against the magistrate have sparked widespread concern and scrutiny, highlighting the imperative for a thorough investigation and swift justice for the survivor.
